"Seven Churches Of The Amana Colonies" makes its debut at Amana Furniture.

The Amana Furniture Shop is proud to introduce "The Seven Churches Of The Amana Colonies "done by Suzanne B. Aunon of Iowa City. Suzanne is a self-taught artist who began her career at the Amana Furniture shop in the early 1980's. Suzanne has developed a style that incorporates the subject matter and the interesting stories behind each piece that has become recognized worldwide..

Suzanne has spent many days in Amana enjoying the architecture and landscape. Struck by the simplistic beauty of the church in each village, Suzanne felt it was only right to include all seven in her latest work.

Suzanne's description of this work speaks to the importance of the churches in Amana history...

The seven villages of the Amana Colonies were established in eastern Iowa beginning in 1855. The church was the most important building for this Christian communal group. Today the Amana Church Society continues with worship services offered in German and English in Middle Amana and Amana. The seven churches still can be found: Amana, West Amana, South Amana, East Amana, Homestead, High Amana and Middle Amana. The name "Amana" comes from the Bible, the Song of Solomon 4:8. It means "remain true" or "believe faithfully."
